On January 24 1848 the man who first discovered that there were gold found in the river which led to the Gold Rush was James Wilson Marshall. As for the discovery it became a worldwide rush in California and also great information on the nation's history. The discovery of gold in California spread quickly, people from Hawaii and Oregon (Latin America) were the first to hear about the gold and were the first to go down there to look for more. During 1849 the rest of the United States including Russia, Europe, Australia, and China came down also, at this time they were known as the fourtyniners. The first gold finders easily found the gold on the ground, as time passes and more minors came in search for the gold they looked in streams and rivers using pans to look for the gold. By 1852 gold became difficult to search since a lot of it was found.
Encounters:
Life as a minor was not as easy as people thought it would be during the Gold Rush. In search for gold, It became more of a challenge for the minors. It was difficult to find an un-mined mountain that was not searched in yet. The weather was one of the issues the minors had during the time which destroyed their camps and as a solution, they make a community to make it safer. The mining towns were in bad and unsafe conditions. Minors were afraid of any physical danger that would occur, many became very ill caused by bad food and a bad, unclean environment. At the time many feared death, others were lonely or even homesick. As gold became harder to find, it resulted competition and discrimination which led to crime. Mining was just hard work and difficult.

The Gold Rush made a great development in California. Roads, churches, schools, towns and more were made for the gold diggers during the time. Gold helped California become a state in the United States. About half of four thousand Indians that found $30,000 to $50,000 worth of gold everyday as a minors. Coloma became the Gold Rush town at the time. The gold found by the minors was worth a great deal and that is what caused people to want to search for the gold hoping they find it.
